Are you ready for one of ABB's most interesting engineer positions, that combines professional and personal development? Then you may become one of our competent co-workers and take on a great responsibility in a stimulating environment where we work in cross-technological project groups. Working with us opens up for several different career paths, depending on your interests and ambitions.
The HVDC System Design department is responsible for electrical design of HVDC plants. Rating studies, specification of high voltage equipment, definition of concepts for control and protection design as well as system studies are part of our scope of work.
Design Engineer - Main Circuit and Filters
In the Main Circuit Design team your main task will be the design of high voltage systems. This primarily means that you will perform electrical calculations and simulations for the dimensioning of converter plants. Your responsibility will cover everything from support of our Sales department during the marketing phase, over tenders and order projects, to verifying measurements on the converter sites.
Design Engineer - Insulation Coordination
In the field of insulation coordination, you will optimise the insulation levels within the HVDC converter station. The work includes dimensioning of our state-of-the-art DC breaker, solid-state voltage limiting devices, surge arresters and AC circuit breakers based on different fault scenarios. Your task will be to study and verify the overvoltage protection scheme through simulations in PSCAD/EMTDC.
Engineer - High Voltage Equipment
As an Equipment Engineer you will specify technically advanced main circuit equipment for HVDC. Other important tasks will be providing support to our purchase department, witnessing tests of equipment and participating in commissioning on site. In this role, you will interact directly with customers and suppliers as well as work in project teams. The position will provide you with the opportunity to make business trips and visit parts of the world where many of our suppliers, customers and sites are located.
Design Engineer - System Studies
Working at the system design and simulation department you will be part of a team that is responsible for the overall performance of an HVDC transmission including interaction with surrounding AC-networks. You will work with development of control algorithms as well as study stability and dynamic performance for our HVDC-deliveries. The job also includes support during testing of control and protection systems in house and at our sites around the world. The tools we use are mainly PSCAD/EMTDC, PSSE and DIgSILENT 's Power Factory.
Design Engineer - Digital Models and Simulators
If you have an interest in programming and electrical power systems then building models in digital simulation tools, such as PSCAD/EMTDC, PSSE and Power Factory, might be the right challenge for you. Advanced models of converters and control systems are produced for use by your fellow employees and customers alike. The group also designs real time simulators used for testing of the complete control and protection systems. Here you will work in close cooperation with many departments to secure the quality of the system delivered to site.
