Engine Control - Function Development Engineer

The section Engine Controls & Calibration is responsible for function development, calibration and validation of engine control in Volvo Car Groups petrol and diesel engines. If you want to participate in the development of future state-of-the-art control of Volvo engines there is now an opportunity to join the group for Vehicle Application. We are now building up a competence center for temperature modeling and need to expand with a function development engineer.

As a Function Development Engineer, you will work with physically based temperature models in the exhaust system. Several exhaust temperatures requires sufficient accuracy for the control system, for protection, control and for diagnostic purpose. You will work closely with experienced engineers in a team but have a clear area of responsibility. Other areas, that the group are working with are; Soot load estimation of particulates in diesel engines, Thermal management and governing of oil/fuel pressure in both diesel and petrol engines. We also control the VVT (Variable Valve Timing) for petrol engines.

Main responsibilities

* Develop functional changes within temperature models
* Implement and customize temperature models to Software
* Perform unit testing in different test environments
* Ensure verification of those functions within engine projects
* Report status of work to projects

Required qualifications

* University degree in Engineering Physics, Chemical Engineering or equivalent
* Extensive thermodynamic experience and knowledge
* Interest in mathematical modelling and scientific computing
* Experience in programming, preferably Python and/or Matlab
* Knowledge about Simulink and TargetLink
* Driver's license B
* Fluent in English, written and spoken

* Structured, but with an open mind for change and new ideas
* Good analytical skills
* Like things to happen and see the result of it
* Team player who performs well when interacting with others
* Knowledge of engines or interest in learning about engines
* Ability to discuss and learn/teach mentioned subjects using pen and paper
