hela Sverige The European Spallation Source is hiring motivated and inspiring people from across the globe to design, construct and operate the world's most powerful neutron source. We seek ambitious, talented people in a range of fields who are excited about playing a part in the future of science in Europe. The ESS is a partnership of 13 European countries and occupies a truly impressive campus based in the beautiful, cosmopolitan university city of Lund, Sweden - just 10 minutes from Malmö and 30 minutes from Copenhagen.
We are now looking to appoint an Embedded System Engineer. This is a critical role that exists within our Integrated Control System (ICS) division. The tasks and responsibilities of the Integrated Control Systems (ICS) division include - but are not limited to - the design, construction, commissioning and operation of control systems for the ESS facility.
About the role:
As our next embedded system engineer, you will be responsible for iteracting with Integrated Control System (ICS) stakeholders to define requirements, design and develop embedded systems to ensure that all work is executed in accordance with ESS quality assurance and safety procedures. Therefore, we need someone who can maintain the ESS Linux (an embedded Linux distribution based on the Yocto project), develop and maintain embedded software solutions using C and C++ and also take part in - and give support to - firmware development on ESS FPGA platforms.
About you:
We attach great importance to personality and attitude, so we're looking for a real team player: Someone who is driven, has excellent communication skills, who likes to collaborate with different people and who is committed to helping this amazing project to realise its full potential. We need someone with a degree (or equivalent) in engineering, technology or science and 3 or more years of embedded system development experience. Ideally, you will also have a backgound in developing technical control system documentation.
The working language of ESS is English, so there is no need for you to speak Swedish - although this is always an advantage. It's most important that you're fluent in C/C++ - even better if you can also bring some Linux development experience. If you have any experience of Ansible, Artifactory or similar types of systems, then we definitely want to hear from you.
In addition to the above, it would be highly advantageous if you could also bring any experience or knowledge of:
• EPICS integration and development
• High speed data acquisition systems
• FPGA based firmware development
• Linux kernel/driver development
• Quality assurance and verification of control systems, preferably using automated test tools
• System engineering and total lifecycle management of control systems
• Complex, international technical/scientific projects
What can we offer?
Aside from the opportunity to work at one of only 4 linear accelerator-based Spallation sources on the whole planet, you can also expect:
• An opportunity to contribute to the future discoveries within neutron science.
• A stunning, brand new workplace filled with innovative minds and brilliant people from across the globe.
• A challenging, exciting and fast-paced work environment.
• Market competitive compensation that is individual and differentiated according to role, responsibilities, individual skills, abilities, and achievements.
• 30 days of annual leave, as well as more than 10 days of public holiday and company days off or days with limited working hours.
• Flexible working arrangements and a real work-life balance.
• Relocation support and allowances if needed.
• An excellent quality of life in the highly sought after, family-friendly, beautiful and well-connected Southern Sweden/Greater Copenhagen region.
This a permanent position. You will be based at the ESS Campus in Lund, Sweden - and we'd love you to start as soon as possible.
Interested? We sure hope so:
