hela Sverige The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Embedded Engineer position in the Integrated Control System Division.
1. DESCRIPTION OF MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The main responsibilities associated with this position are:
• Interacting with Integrated Control System (ICS) stakeholders to define requirements, design and develop embedded subsystems for the ICS control systems
• Document and analyse stakeholder and internal requirements
• Participate in creating test and validation plans according to requirements
• Design embedded system solutions and prepare for technical reviews
• Implement and realize the designed solution
• Troubleshoot and optimize performance of existing solutions
• Drive test and validation procedures for the designed solution
• Maintain and support the delivered systems
• Interacting with ICS's partners
• Formulate and document requirements for partner contributions
• Participate in follow-up on partner development activities
• Review and assess designs and documents from partner contributors
• Ensure a high quality level of delivered contributions
• Maintain and support systems delivered by partners
• Participate in planning and reporting
• Reporting weekly progress/issues/next steps to work package managers
• Support work package and project managers with technical competence
• Assist work package activities and work package managers with Earned Value Management project reporting
• Ensure that all work executed in accordance with ESS quality assurance and safety procedures
• Actively participate in work with deliverable and process quality
This is a senior position and it is expected that the applicant is capable of driving tasks to successful completion independently.
2. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are mandatory for this position:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering, technology or science
• Knowledge about FPGA and similar embedded system technology
• 5+ years of experience from work with FPGA or similar embedded system applications
• Experience in VHDL hardware description language
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Excellent oral and written English skills
3. MERITING QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are meriting for this position:
• Higher academic degree in related topic
• 3+ years of experience with Xilinx FPGA technology
• Experience and knowledge of the Xilinx Vivado tool suite
• Documented experience in C/C++ software development
• Experience from MicroTCA based systems
• Experience from systems using FMC technologies
• Experience from EtherCAT based systems
• Experience from EPICS or similar control system infrastructure
• Experience and knowledge Linux kernel development for embedded systems
• Experience from complex, international technical/scientific projects
4. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are desirable, but optional, for this position:
• Experience and knowledge in embedded software development
• Experience in real time Linux
• Previous experience from "big science" projects is an advantage
• Experience from collaborative electronic tools such as Jira
• Experience of working in an international environment

• This is a permanent employee position

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
