Objectives
The Electronic Technology Organization (part of Global R&D Food Preparation) is responsible for the organization, planning and execution of electrical control system projects from marketing concept to production. This process involves the translation of consumer needs into technical specifications, working directly with hardware and software engineers, estimating resources, estimating costs, and development of technical specifications and test plans. The candidate will work closely together in an international team with locations in Germany, Italy, US and China.
The ideal candidate is ardent in coming up with new ideas that add value to the customer and constantly challenges the status quo. She or he strives for a visible, measurable benefit from every action.
Key operational responsibilities
1. Applies knowledge of applicable technology and industry/company standards to investigate new technologies, methods and test procedures.
2. Works within a defined development process to deliver requirements defined for electronics product development
3. Exhibits appropriate professional behavior including positive attitude, sense of urgency, independent judgment, teamwork, creative thinking and personal integrity to achieve department/corporate goals and objectives.
4. Determines the benefit of product design re-use from existing products and modifies existing designs as input to new products.
5. Prepares documentation for team members and management to understand requirements for new project requests
6. Develops detailed engineering documentation including block diagrams, schematics, fabrication and assembly drawings, component drawings, specifications, manuals and other customer documentation, development and validation test procedures, Engineering Change Notices and manufacturing procedures.
7. Develops product technical specifications based off of a variety of requirement inputs including consumer, marketing and industrial design.
8. Prepares test and validation plans. Leads execution and direction of product testing.
9. Works with outside consultants, suppliers and contract manufacturers to develop and manufacture electronic components and assemblies.
10. Works closely with Purchasing and Quality to investigate, qualify, select and manage electronics suppliers.
11. Works closely with manufacturing to ensure the smooth transition of new designs into the production process including support past pilot run and into full manufacturing ramp up.
Reporting to
Systems Technology Leader
• Bachelor or Master Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar education.
Technical competencies
1. 3+ years of proven experience in conceiving and developing embedded controls and control systems preferably in a consumer appliance product R&D environment.
2. Proven understanding of electrical systems.
3. Experience in designing embedded control systems algorithms.
4. Experience in low level serial communications functionality
5. Knowledge of systems integration and the interactions between hardware and software design.
6. Communications with cross-functional (non-engineering) team members is a must.
7. Skilled in technical writing.
8. Experience using UML, state diagrams, class diagrams and user interaction diagrams to create technical specifications.
9. Knowledge of DFMEAs for control systems.
10. Ability to translate non-technical user requirements into specific technical solutions.
11. Ability to work as an integral, contributing member of both domestic and international technical electronics development teams
12. Ability to organize and manage workload in order to effectively support multiple projects.
13. Knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes
14. The following competencies are distinct pluses
a. Design/programming experience using C/C++ firmware
b. Labview, Labwindows/CVI, Matlab, and/or Simulink experience a distinct plus.
c. Knowledge of schematic and circuit design and layout using ORCAD or similar CAD system.
d. Track record in managing external suppliers to achieve required levels of quality, performance and delivery of sourced components, assemblies and sub-assemblies.
