You will be part of Corporate Research in Västerås. In close collaboration with ABB business areas, we develop the foundation for the next generation of ABB products. Corporate Research Sweden employs 250 scientists with expertise in Automation and Power Technologies. The department of Power Technologies at Corporate Research in Västerås is responsible for ABB?s strategic R&D worldwide in the areas of Power Systems, Power Products and Electrical Machines. We have an international environment with 130 scientists and engineers from all over the world, who work at the forefront of research and development in the field of Power Technology.
In the position as Electromagnetics Specialist you will work in the Electrotechnologies and Design Group with both long-term and short-term R&D projects. You will mainly work with electromagnetic modeling and simulations in connection to experimental activities with focus on improving, developing and optimizing the performance of ABB?s power products. You will assume responsibility for planning and execution of projects according to objectives, budget and schedule as well as document and present project results within ABB. The position also includes responsibility for developing the technology area within ABB?s research organization in close collaboration with our business units. You will keep the research at the scientific forefront by establishing networks and collaborating with research institutes and academia. The work will be performed in an international environment with great opportunities for personal development.
To be successful in this position, you should have a Ph.D. in Physics, Theoretical Electrotechnics, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, High Voltage Technology or similar. You could also have an M.Sc. in combination with several years of work experience. Expert knowledge in electromagnetic theory, modeling and simulations is required while experience from working with electromagnetics at power frequencies and high voltages is qualifying. Skills in coupled electromagnetic and thermal problems are an advantage. It is also advantageous if you have worked with experiments related to electromagnetic phenomena as well as computational methods. You should be proficient in software tools for computational electromagnetics or electric and thermal field simulations, such as COMSOL Multiphysics, Infolytica software packages MagNet and ThermNet, MATLAB or similar. Further, excellent communication skills and proficiency in English is required, written and spoken alike. Knowledge in or the willingness to learn Swedish is desirable.
On a personal level you are a creative and result-oriented teamplayer with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to take initiative. You also have the capacity to start up, manage and finalize several tasks at the same time.
