The HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used, among other things,
to transmit power over long distances with minimal losses, using overhead lines, underground and
submarine cable systems.
The electrical valve design department is a part of ABB HVDC Products in Ludvika and it is
responsible for the electrical design of semiconductor based HVDC and SVC valves. HVDC valves
are used to convert AC to DC, and vice versa, and are essential for HVDC power transmissions. SVC
valves are used in SVC systems, in order to support and stabilize AC systems. The electrical design
department has 10 employees and works in close collaboration with our offices in India and China.
The department works with technical tender and delivery projects.
