Economist in the area of IP Valuation

Being probably the largest group of professional economists outside the public sector and academia in the Nordic region and employing the very best people, we offer a focussed and challenging economic environment allowing you to develop as a professional economist. You will learn our way of doing things - through formal training and by always being part of a team of experienced consultants providing economic expert advice to our clients. You will have a manager who will give you feedback and support to help you grow your competences, advance according to our career path, and eventually develop into a full-fledged consultant. We offer an attractive bonus system that awards expert knowledge, high quality and a flair for client contact. In all projects, we focus on developing a clear and convincing story line, develop the proper arguments and support the arguments with solid economic facts. Specifically, you will be working with projects within IP Valuation. The skillset encountered in this area usually extends to economics, specifically industrial organization, finance, tax, and accounting. We do not expect you to have competences within all of these areas - but these are the areas you will encounter when working in the area of IP Valuation. To give you an idea of what we do within the area of IP Valuation, some examples of our work follow. We have helped large multinational enterprises to value their (consumer) brands, which they license to subsidiaries worldwide. We estimated the brand value based on price and demand data as well as customer surveys and derived appropriate ("arm's length") license fees from this. Often, we also estimate the economic lifetime of the brand in order to identify how long the license fee is applicable. We have valued IP (e.g. patents, know-how) of target companies in M&A deals to support the client in their purchase price allocations and for the post-merger integration of the target companies into the group. Through benefit analyses we have identified the value-add the respective IP element may provide to the business by means of expert interviews, econometric modelling, and market / industry research. We have supported clients in IP infringement cases, where an opponent used IP (e.g. trademark, patents) by other companies. By means of economic and econometric modelling, we have assessed the damage resulting from the infringement for the IP owner in these cases. We have advised clients in cases where they restructure the group and transfer IP abroad. In these cases, we have estimated the profit potential the IP may generate (by means of, for example, Discounted Cash Flow, Real Option Modelling, Monte Carlo simulation methods) for taxation purposes.

We are looking for ambitious economists eager to work in an economics consultancy and to approach and solve a diverse range of problems by applying economic theory and tools. You should be motivated by solving problems - and take personal pride in solving them elegantly. You have attained a Master's in Economics or Business Administration. You were one of the best in your class and, on top of that, you may have specialised in industrial organization or finance. Work experience of up to 2 years in consulting (e.g. in management or economic con-sulting, or accounting firms) is a plus, but not a requirement. You possess strong communication skills in a professional business manner. You feel comfortable in interviewing clients in various businesses in order to identify the facts of the case. Also, you have a fast grasp of understanding and you excel in a detailed manner of work, while keeping your priorities in mind. Furthermore, we expect you to be fluent in Swedish and to have excellent English skills. Finnish speaking is a plus, but not a requirement.

Since we would like you to start soon, we encourage you to send your application as soon as possible and not later than 18 August 2013. Please submit the application to kad@copenhageneconomics.com and mark your application "Economist IP Valuation". For further information, please contact Senior economist Hendrik Fügemann .
