The International School of the Stockholm Region is a publically funded international school which exists primarily to serve the educational needs of the transient and/or international community of Stockholm. The school runs the International Baccalaureate's curricula. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is offered to students from 5-11 years of age and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) is offered to students from 11-16. The schools language of instruction is English for all subjects. In addition, the IBO Diploma Programme is also offered through IB School South on the same campus. Thus with ISSR and IB School South our students can receive an internationally-recognized education in English from 5 to 19 years of age in one location in the center of Stockholm.

The position includes developing an EAL -programme according to the IB standards and practices in collaboration with the leadership team. The position also includes English as an Additional Language (EAL) instruction and Special Educational Needs (SEN) support for students in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP). Instruction will be a combination of pull-out (small class intensive instruction) and push-in (joining the classroom to provide assistance) instruction. There will be an ongoing expectation to work closely with the teachers and learning assistants to facilitate learning.
Responsibilities include:
• Lead and educate the EAL team based on best EAL teaching practice and current research
• Develop EAL curriculum in alignment with IB standards
• Support teachers in providing the best possible learning environment and experiences for EAL and SEN students
• Map the EAL and SEN needs within the PYP
• Teach EAL and SEN students according to student needs
• Provide support to all EAL and SEN students in mainstream classrooms and in pull-out sessions
• Monitor and document the progress of all EAL and SEN students
• Be an active member of the Student Care Team
• Collaborate with parents on how to support EAL and SEN learning
• Plan with colleagues across the school
• Participate in school activities (assemblies, evening events, conferences, etc.)
• Supervise children during breaks
• Continued professional development
A qualified candidate will be:
• A university educated teacher with certification from an English speaking country
• International degree in Special Education, including EAL
• Experience in leading teachers, conduct workshops and coordination
• IB teaching experience and training
• Native English speaker
• Highly competent with IT (Windows platform, Smartboard and other tools for learning).
