The doctoral student positions are financed mainly through education grants during the first two years and employment as doctoral students during the two last years, alternatively employment as doctoral students during four years, and pertains to a doctoral degree.

Hearing health in communication intense occupational environments

Description of the research project
The PhD will be positioned at Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Institute of Medicine and within the Sound Research Environment Unit
www.amm.se/soundenvironment. The research covers the impacts of noise/sound on human health including sleep disturbance, general wellbeing, work performance, cognition and hearing related disorders. Research methods include both experimental evaluations using modern laboratory facilities and epidemiological studies where response is assessed using quantitative and qualitative methods and related to relevant sound exposures.
The PhD project will specifically focus on hearing related disorders and symptoms among personnel in communication intense work places. In these groups, the incidence of hearing related disorders and risk factors for the development of hearing related disorders will be assessed using epidemiological methods. The project also includes the development and audiological validation of a screening questionnaire to assess early symptoms of hearing related disorders.
An appropriate background for the candidate is one year master of audiology or equivalent education within relevant areas, but not a prerequisite. Knowledge in Statistical methods is also desired. We are looking for a person who is highly motivated and interested in the link between noise, hearing and health. Personal qualities such as co-operation, accuracy and initiative behavior are preferred.
