Fatigue in persons with Rheumatoid arthritis

Description of the research project
This PhD-project focuses on searching for deeper knowledge about how persons with rheumatic disease experience fatigue and which strategies they use to manage their life despite of fatigue, and to develop a person-centered treatment to reduce fatigue and its consequences. This is a clinical research project, comprising both qualitative and quantitative research approach, and it will be done in co-operation with University of Gothenburg Centre for Person-centered Care (GPCC). The aim of the project has been divided into four separate research questions:
1. How do persons with rheumatic disease experience their fatigue and what strategies do they use to manage their life despite fatigue?
2. How much does the fatigue vary over time in persons with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and which factors may influence their fatigue?
3. Do characteristics and severity of fatigue differ among persons with rheumatoid diseases?
4. Does person-centered care result in larger reduction of fatigue than traditional care? A randomized controlled trial.
The project is expected to result in new knowledge about factors that influence fatigue in persons with rheumatic disease, which then will be used to improve the overall health in patients and the competence among health care personal.
Desired background
It is desirable that applicants have a background in Physical Therapy, experience of clinical assessment of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and exercise therapy for these patients, as well as a capacity to take personal initiatives, and to work in a team of researchers and clinicians.
