Radiogenomic studies of cancer survivors

Description of the research project
Genetic basis of sensibility for ionizing radiation gained considerable interest and it is considered paramount for tailoring personalized therapies.
The goal of the PhD-project is to bring new scientific knowledge on the life situation of cancer survivors. With the help of genetic analyses, epidemiologic data, treatment characteristics (absorbed ionizing radiation, volume of the organ at risk) we search for new valuable information on how to treat cancer patients effectively while maintaining their quality of life after cancer diagnosis and treatment. The research project aims to assess the possibility of expanding the presently used normal-tissue complication probability models and to bring together the aspects of dose-volume modelling with the aspects of genetic analysis.
Desired background
An appropriate candidate will have research experience with cancer patients. Understanding of mathematical - statistical methods and knowledge about genetic epidemiology is desirable.
