The positions are a doctoral position in the context of the newly established Software Center at Chalmers University of Technology. Founding members of the Software Center include Ericsson, Volvo and Saab. The successful candidate will be enrolled as a doctoral student at University of Gothenburg, but perform his or her research in close collaboration with the industry partners. The department provides a strong, international, and dynamic research environment with about 70 faculty and 70 PhD students. For more information,

As a doctoral student you are employed by University of Gothenburg and you will receive a salary according to current salary agreements. At least 80% of your time will devoted to research toward your doctoral degree. Thus, a maximum of 20% of your time may include teaching at the department at University of Gothenburg and Chalmers. The remaining time will be devoted to your own courses and research within the project and you are expected to obtain a Ph.D. within a maximum of 5 years.

The qualifications for education on a doctoral level are: degree in advanced level, at least 240 university points, of which 60 are on an advanced level, or in an other way acquired similar knowledge.

Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for education on a doctoral level are given in SFS 1998:80.

Industrial research collaboration experience is meritorious as one of the goals of the Software Center is to generate results that are of academic excellence as well as improve the competitive position of the Software Center industry partners through a significant and measurable improvement of their software engineering capability.
Applicants shall have a Master?s Degree or corresponding (Sv. civilingenjörsexamen) in Software Engineering or Computer Science or in a related discipline (you may apply even though you might not have completed your degree yet, but expect to do so before the position starts). As for all PhD studies, a genuine interest and curiosity in the subject matter and excellent analytical and communication skills, orally as well as literally, are needed. A successful candidate should have a profound interest in software engineering and software metrics.
Further, since the research work involves developing measurement dashboards and corresponding analytical techniques, good programming skills are important.
Knowledge of Swedish is not a prerequisite for applying since English is our working language for research at Chalmers and University of Gothenburg as well as at the working language at the industry partners of the Software Center. Also, we publish internationally in English. At Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg, half of our researchers and PhD students are native Swedes; the rest come from more than 30 different countries. Good command in English, however, is a requirement.
It is highly recommended that you include or e-mail letters of recommendation: we typically get a large number of applications, and it is simply not feasible for us to request individual letters. It is essential that the application includes all relevant work such as theses and articles that you have authored or co-authored.
