Job assignments
Postgraduate studies will be placed at Division of Synchrotron Radiation Research, Department of Physics. The work will be carried out at the Nanometer Structure Consortium at Lund University (nmC@LU), Lund High Power Laser Facilities and MAX-lab.

Within this project, the candidate will do research related to development and use of Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) and other advanced microscopy/spectroscopy techniques to study nanostructure surfaces with extreme spatial and temporal resolution. A broad range of nanostructures, with an emphasis on semiconductor nanowires, are expected to be studied. The project will also involve the use of advanced light sources such as synchrotrons and advanced femtosecond and attosecond laser technology. Experiments will also include the use of other standard characterization techniques both at Department of Physics and the Swedish national synchrotron facility at MAX-lab (www.maxlab.lu.se).

The PhD-candidate is expected to work independently, but in collaboration with researchers from a variety of different divisions and centers and participate in Ph.D schools. The PhD studies contain a course part and a scientific project. Teaching on undergraduate level might also be a part of the job.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.Special eligibility requirements comprise knowledge from first-cycle studies or the equivalent, but can also refer to special professional experience. Additionally, sufficient knowledge of the subject area is required for third-cycle studies.Students meeting special eligibility requirements are those who have- at least 60 higher education credits within the same subject area as the third-cycle studies, of which in-depth work of at least 30 higher education credits of relevance to the subject area- a Swedish medical degree or Swedish certification as a doctor.

Basis of Assessment
The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.

For the present position experience with high resolution Scanning Tunneling Microscopy on III-V semiconductor nanowires are of significant value. The ability for skillful laboratory work is essential, including advanced microscopy, ultra high vacuum technology and experience in working at synchrotron radiation facilities especially in the area of photoemission spectroscopy and in clean-room environments. Important personal qualities are, beside creativity and a curious mind, the ability to work both independently and in a group and experience in the scientific interaction with researchers from other disciplines and from other countries. Good knowledge in spoken and written English is very important.
