Do you want to work with documentation of genetic resources in a Nordic context? NordGen documentation- and IT section has a vacancy for a full time position in Alnarp, Sweden.
Your major can be in computer science, programming, bioinformatics, genetics, agronomy, horticulture, plant breeding or similar. In any case you should have the ability to move between disciplines and enjoy learning new things.
Main responsibilities
The documentation section is responsible for NordGen's databases and documentation system in cooperation with plant experts from NordGen and the clonal archives in the Nordic countries. This work means quality management of data and maintenance and development of databases and applications. NordGen documentation section is also frequently involved in projects with external partners.
We are mainly using PostgreSQL on Linux platform and applications written in PHP, but other platforms are occasionally used.
NordGen Documentation and IT section consists of three persons: IT- and documentation manager, documentation scientist and database developer and a system administrator. The person we are looking for is expected to have a broad IT experience and to be able to occasionally assist NordGen staff with general IT support.
Documentation of PGR (Plant Genetic Resources) is an area of international cooperation. NordGen works together with genebanks and other institutions in the Nordic countries, the Baltic countries, other European countries and beyond. In the Nordic and Baltic countries NordGen act as coordinator and we are looking for someone with the ability to build networks together with responsible for documentation from other institutions. The position requires some travelling.
There is a rapid development in the area of molecular genetics, which affects the work of genebanks, including documentation work. We do not require you to be an expert in molecular genetics, but you must be able to get in to the subject, enough to be able to develop NordGen's documentation work along with future requirements.
Minimum qualifications

• Pedagogical talent and support minded
• English language
Preferred qualifications
• Experience in taxonomy
• Experience from PHP, PostgreSQL, Linux, JavaScript/CSS/HTML, GIS, web services,
• Knowledge in one of the Scandinavian languages
• Experience in Quality Assurance work
NordGen offers
• Employment contract according to the regulations of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The employment contract will be signed first for 4 years with the possibility for an additional 4 years. Other working conditions are given by the regulation of the employment agreements of the State of Sweden.
