Call for applications for doctoral studentship in History, as part of the project: Information Infrastructure in the Baltic Area. Nodes, News and News Agents, c. 1650-1700
(Reference number 29/22/2012)
Description
The doctoral student will write his/her thesis as part of the above research project, which investigates the Baltic region's information infrastructure during the latter half of the 1600s. This infrastructure was based on a number of central nodes: Hamburg, Gdansk, Riga and Stockholm. These cities had a range of information experts: postmasters, newspaper writers, and correspondents who gathered and distributed news on a growing news market. The project will investigate this infrastructure and its players, which were essential in order to be able to organise financial, political and cultural contacts within the Baltic region and thus Sweden's empire. The thesis shall focus on a particular aspect of the information infrastructure in the Baltic Sea region in the seventeenth century (i.e. the agents, media forms, infrastructure, economic or cultural aspects) or on the use of news media in the Swedish Empire.
