Environmental Studies is a broad interdisciplinary research area that examines human interaction with natural processes. Environmental Studies cover the studies of ecological and other natural processes that affect the ecosystems over space and time, changes and environmental problems caused by anthropogenic influence as well as environmental policy, governance and sustainable development. Knowledge in both natural and social sciences is necessary for the understanding of environmental issues and problems. Research within Environmental studies at Södertörn University focuses on three integrated themes: Environmental Change and Ecological Processes, Environmental Governance and Environment and Development. These themes are described in more detail here

Description
The doctoral studentship will have a focus towards the themes Environmental Governance (e.g. how various processes, structures and stakeholders influence how the environment and issues related to the use of natural resources are described, communicated and managed) or Environment and Development (e.g. the prerequisites for sustainable ecological, social and economic development, with an emphasis on relations between natural resource use and political change). More information about Environmental Studies can be found at www.sh.se/env_studies

A document describing the applicant's research interest should be included in the application. To benefit from our existing research environment and infrastructure, the document of research interest can relate to current research and project suggestions at Environmental Studies. The research must be relevant for the Baltic Sea region or Eastern Europe since the position is within the Baltic and Eastern European Graduate School, BEEGS
