hela Sverige Örebro University and the School of Law, Psychology, and Social Work are looking for a doctoral student for the doctoral programme in psychology, concluding with a doctoral degree.
Start date: Preferable in the beginning of September 2022.
Project description
The doctoral student will work within the VR-funded project "What role does climate change worry play in young people's lives and learning processes? A longitudinal study of protective and transformative factors and implications for climate-change education" led by Associate Professor Maria Ojala. In the project a survey study with senior high school students is conducted over three years to investigate the relationships between worry about global climate change and psychological well-being, climate engagement, values, and knowledge. The aim is also to identify factors that can transform anxiety into a positive force for learning, well-being, and engagement. In addition, interviews are conducted with worried young people.
During the doctoral studies, the doctoral candidate has the opportunity to participate in two successful research environments at Örebro University: CESSS (Center for Environmental and Sustainability Social Science) and LEADER (Center for Lifespan Developmental Research).
Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by Associate Professor Maria Ojala (principal supervisor) and an assistant supervisor.

Entry requirements and selection
For admission to doctoral studies, applicants are required to meet both general entry requirements and specific entry requirements. In addition, applicants must be considered in other respects to have the ability required to benefit from the programme. For a full account of the entry requirements, refer to the admissions regulations as well as to annex 2 to the general syllabus for psychology.
Applicants meet the general entry requirements for doctoral studies if they:
• have been awarded a qualification at the master's level,
• have satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits (four years), of which at least 60 credits (one year) were awarded at the master's level, or
• have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
Applicants meet the specific entry requirements for doctoral studies in psychology if they, in their higher education, have approved grades on courses of at least 90 higher education credits, including independent work at C-level/bachelor thesis, in psychology (if the candidate has a master's thesis in psychology a bachelor thesis in psychology is not needed). Special qualifications also apply to those who have acquired substantially equivalent knowledge within or outside the country.
Since both quantitative (statistics) and qualitative analyses of research data may be included in the doctoral work, a very good analytical ability and an openness to different perspectives are required. As the doctoral student will work together with the project leader, project assistants and other senior researchers, it is important to be able to collaborate with others in a good way. In addition, the position requires good communicative skills, both in writing and in speech, in English. A strong inner drive, curiosity, independence, and creativity are further desirable qualities for the position. It is also a merit to be able to show that you have an interest in, and knowledge of, psychology with a focus on environmental issues and climate change and/or psychological perspectives on emotions/coping, and/or developmental psychology with a youth focus, as shown by, for example, completed courses and the focus of the master's thesis.

It should contain a theoretical background, research questions, methods, and ethical considerations. NOTE! The plan is used primarily for selection purposes. The exact content of the thesis is discussed together with the supervisors at the beginning of the employment.
• Copies of relevant course/degree certificates and references verifying eligibility and criteria met
• The date when you can start the employment during Fall 2022 should be stated in the application (we prefer that you start in September)
