Job assignments
These PhD projects are aiming at the development and application of novel laser spectroscopic techniques for in situ measurements of key parameters important for characterization of energy-related thermochemical processes e.g. gasification, combustion or technical non-equilibrium plasmas. Nonintrusive and quantitative detection for combustion important small molecular species like CH4, CH3, InH, CH3In, HF, HCN etc. will be one focus, using different advanced linear or nonlinear optical techniques available in our Division. These measurements will serve the fundamental understanding of combustion and plasma processes in general and solid fuel utilization and heterogeneous combustion like functional nano-material combustion synthesis in specific. Many 'new' molecular species potentially available in complicated environments will be faced. As a Doctoral student the main work will be the research project, but also more general tasks within the department, i.e. teaching, research and administrative work, in accordance with the regulations, will be required. Candidates are expected to present their work at international conferences and to publish results in respected scientific journals.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements
To be considered for this position, the potential candidate should hold a Masters degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, Chemical Physics or equivalent which includes coursework in mathematics and physics and/or chemistry equivalent to at least 240 course points in the Swedish university system. Employment as a Doctoral student can only be granted if the candidate has been accepted to the postgraduate student program. Acceptance to the postgraduate student program is based on the estimated ability to perform well in your postgraduate studies, as assessed by the evaluating board appointed by the Division of Combustion Physics. This is also one of the basic criteria for employment. Rules for employment as a Doctoral student is stated in "The Higher Education Ordnance (SFS 1998:80), Chapter 5". Other requirements: Verbal and written communication skills in English are very important.

Basis of Assessment
The selection of candidates will proceed after the assessment of all potential candidates by the board. The quality of the Master's project work is an important factor in the determination of the most qualified candidate. Other important factors include performance in essential courses, the focus of courses chosen by the candidate and overall Grade Point Average. In addition to the announcement of the available positions, applicants are invited, when possible, to interview for the positions in person. This is especially important for applicants with no prior coursework or knowledge of the Combustion Physics division. Desirable qualifications:
• A strong candidate will have experience in the subjects of optics (photonics, imaging, laser physics) and some experience in fluid mechanics.
• Knowledge and experience of molecular spectroscopy of 'small' poly-atomic species.
• Knowledge in computer science and programming would also be appreciated but is not mandatory.

Additional Information
Application must contain a covering letter in which applicants describe themselves and their particular research interest. Applications must also include a CV, a copy of applicant's Master's thesis (or a summary text if the thesis is not yet completed), contact details of at least two references, copies of grade certificates.
