JTH offers education at all levels. Contact with industry is an important part of our education in order to ensure that the education is anchored in reality, and to acquire practical experience.
Research and third-cycle education are targeted at Industrial product realisation in cooperation, especially applications for small and medium-sized enterprises. Research takes place in collaboration with companies, research institutes and other university colleges of technology, in common projects.
Within the research group Materials and Manufacturing there are good possibilities for personal development by participating in research projects mostly done in close co-operation with industry. The research is interdisciplinary and includes the whole chain from coating process and material properties to materials science as well as modelling and simulation. The department today consists of 35 researchers and PhD students with background in material science, chemistry, mechanics and physics.
The research at the department for Materials and Manufacturing is focused on two main areas: casting and surface technology. Both form a cutting edge research group at Jönköping University and School of Engineering. The research is focused on the relationship between manufacturing process, microstructure and final properties from mechanism to industrial application.
Job description
We are seeking one Doctoral student for a European funded research Project PROCETs
The research project will deal with electrodeposition of nanocomposite coatings for improved wear resistance as replacement of hard chromium coatings in demanding industrial applications. The research will cover the selection of appropriate nanoparticles and metal matrix, the dispersion plating applying direct and pulse current, optimization of the process parameters and evaluation of microstructure, corrosion and wear resistance.
The work consists of research and teaching or performing other duties corresponding up to 20 percent of the total working hours, full time.
The candidate will be enrolled in the educational programme of the research school for Industrial Product Realization. The project is conducted in close collaboration with Swedish and European industries as well as other European research groups.
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate with Master degree or equivalent engineering graduate with specialisation in materials (materials engineering, mechanical engineering, material orientation, material physics or chemistry or equivalent). We expect the candidate to have a genuine interest and curiosity in the subject and ability to work both independently and in teams. We also expect the candidate to be fluent in English.
Information
School of Engineering encourages applications of both, female and male applicants. We are actively working for a more balanced distribution between male and female researchers.
