The Faculty of Technology has broad operations spanning ten different departments through which Linnaeus University provides education and conducts research. The faculty has approximately 3100 students at the undergraduate and advanced levels, 80 doctoral students and 300 teaching staff including administrators.



The Department of Informatics, where this position will be located, has about 35 employees, conducts research and education at two campus, in Kalmar and Växjö. Informatics is the scientific subject that develops knowledge about people's design and use of information and communication technology (ICT), also called digital technology. Postgraduate education is part of the postgraduate education subject of computer and information sciences. The focus for research and education in Informatics is within the areas digital business development, information management, interaction design, eHealth and systems thinking. This position is located within the area digital business development and the PERFORM project, https://www.perform-network.eu/, a Marie Skodowska-Curie project within the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.



The PERFORM project was launched in January 2018 and offers fifteen positions as Early Stage Researchers in five European countries. The project's goal is to prepare the next generation of Digital Retail Managers and tackle digital retail challenges through a combination of training and research. Research candidates will get a unique international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral training in scientific and transferable skills by distinguished leaders from academia and industry.

Research projects within PERFORM focus on creating a coherent customer experience for Digital Retail by combining online and traditional offline retail to an integrated Omnichannel system addressing the following 4 research objectives: (i) develop sustainable business models for the Digital Retail sector, (ii) increase the customer experience along the customer journey, (iii) investigate the use of emerging technologies to build innovative Digital Retail services and (iv) develop a comprehensive knowledge base on Digital Retail operations and analytics.

Consequently, all positions require interdisciplinary approaches that consider and combine the analysis of customer behavior with novel technologies.



Field of study: Computer and Information Science

Terms of employment: 100 % employment as doctoral student to Licentiate Degree, with a possibility for extension to PhD degree.

Type of employment: The employment as a doctoral student is limited according to chapter 5, § 7 of the Higher Education Ordinance. The total employment period may not be longer than the equivalent full-time postgraduate studies of two years.

The doctoral student position is placed at the at Department of Informatics at Linnaeus University.

Work description

The doctoral student's main task is to devote to his / her doctoral education, which includes both own research and courses. The research will result in an approved scientific dissertation. The PhD program also includes presenting research results by writing scientific articles and attending national and international conferences. The theoretical part of the postgraduate study includes postgraduate courses and seminars. A Licentiate degree is obtained after completion of the program, which includes a course component of 60 credits and an approved dissertation of 60 credits. The duties may include teaching, primarily within the research area that applies to the employment. The teaching component may comprise a maximum of 20% of full working time.

We are looking for highly motivated young researcher, with a preferential background in digital retail. The focus of the announced position relates to transformation paths of established business models towards digital retail. Previous experience in fields directly related to the topic of the specific position are welcomed. Excellent research skills and analytical abilities are required. Fluency in English (both spoken and written), proactive communication skills, problem solving as part of a team and a good work ethic are essential characteristics.
