Duties
We are looking for a person that within the context of a PhD project will develop methods for forest planning, including how to handle different aspects of uncertainty in the forest planning process. Forest planning is the process towards decisions how to treat the forest so that the management goals of the forest owner, stake holder or society are obtained. The information normally available for planning, like for instance information on the condition of the forest or the resources required for different actions, is often not known with full certainty. Yet decisions have to be made how to manage the forest, both from a short term perspective as well as how to obtain strategic sustainable goals. The aim of the project is to develop new methods how to handle uncertainty in the forest planning and decision processes, for example the uncertainty in the information that has been collected during forest inventories or remote sensing. These new methods are to be implemented in the Heureka system, which is a leading decision support system for forest management planning. This project will be conducted in cooperation with Holmen Forest.

Qualifications
You should have a Master degree in Forestry, alternatively a Master degree in mathematics and/or statistics with a high interest for forest research. You should also be interested in, and preferably have experience of, forest planning, optimization methods as well as decision support system. Experience in computer programming is a merit. Focus is given to your analytical and problem solving abilities, your ability to work independently and your personal characteristics. You should have good skills in expressing yourself in Swedish and English both orally and in writing.
