About the department and the research project
Research in the field of Biochemistry at Linnaeus University is carried out at the Department of Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. We are interested in a wide range of research disciplines, including molecular interactions, enzymology, immunology, virology, plant molecular biology, chemistry and biomaterials.

Responsibilities include pursuing graduate education up to doctoral level, corresponding to up to four years of study in Biochemistry. The thesis will focus on the design, computer programming, execution and analysis of evolutionary models to study the development of resistance to targeted treatment in certain types of blood cancers. The study is being performed in collaboration with research groups from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the Huntsman Cancer Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, and is likely to involve travel to the United States. The course of study will involve simulations and experiments.

Qualifications

General eligibility:

Graduate of advanced level (normally M. Sc.) in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Bioinformatics or related areas

Completed courses amounting to 240 credits, including 60 credits at advanced level, or substantially equivalent knowledge acquired in some other way within the country or abroad

Fluency in oral and written English

Other assessment criteria

Priority will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

Proven ability to write computer programs in an academic or industrial setting

Experience with development of theoretical models in biology or chemistry

Excellent communication skills

Experience in studies with cells or tissue is also an advantage.

Terms of employment
The position is funded for four years with the objective of obtaining a PhD.
