Jönköping University is a young professional-oriented university characterized by a high degree of internationalization, an entrepreneurial spirit and extensive collaboration with surrounding society.

It is one of three Swedish private, non-profit institutions of higher education with the right to award doctorates.

The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University. We offer an attractive technical education at undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct advanced research in several technological areas. The School of Engineering has the right to award doctorates in industrial product realization. We collaborate with the surrounding society to develop new technology and spread knowledge to strengthen the competitiveness of companies. Working with us, you are close to colleagues in an international environment with great opportunities to influence and develop.

The department of Construction Engineering and Lighting Science offers graduate and post-graduate education. The department has an active research environment with research focusing on knowledge intensive product realisation and digitalisation (Building Information Modelling, BIM) with a strong focus on the interaction between humans and (lighting/building) products. In our efforts to become a national hub for lighting research we are currently looking for a PhD candidate for the first phase of the Eval4Light project (Licentiate, 3 years).

The department is looking for committed Doctoral students in Building Information Modelling, BIM

Job description

Where in the preceding project Map4Light (https://ju.se/en/research/research-groups/construction-engineering-and-lighting-science/research-projects/map4light.html) prototype tools were used to generate light environment proposals, in the Eval4Light project, additional software tools will be used for evaluation of such proposals. The use of these tools enables assessment of the light environment regarding energy performance and the effect on human health and well-being (vision/beyond vision).

As a doctoral student, the focus of your work will be research execution combined with a research education in a third-cycle education program. The third-cycle subject area for admission will most likely be 'Machine Design' / 'Product and Production Development' within the Graduate School in Industrial Product Realisation at the School of Engineering, Jönköping University. All though research will be the main task for you (80 percent of full-time work) you will, to a limited extent, get opportunities to participate in teaching on first- and second-cycle education courses, or administration.
