One of the major challenges in the discovery of innovative medicines is to ensure they are safe enough to test their therapeutic concept in clinical trials and provide novel treatment that patients are waiting for. Drug safety is assessed throughout the pharmaceutical R&D value chain, but it is during early drug discovery when we can actively design safety attributes into the future candidate drug. Our global Discovery Safety department takes on this challenge. As true Drug Hunting partners to our Innovative Medicines units, we contribute to the selection of novel drug targets, identification and optimization of new chemical series as well as a range of other modalities, and selection of novel candidate drugs. We develop and apply cutting edge technologies and push the boundaries of predictive safety science with our mission in mind: to discover safe innovative medicines for the patients that need them.
As Discovery Safety Specialist, you will:
• Contribute to the discovery of innovative treatments for Cardiovascular, Metabolic, Respiratory, Inflammatory and/or Autoimmune diseases.
• Be responsible for the safety dimension in multi-disciplinary drug-hunting project teams. You will lead drug safety teams to influence project decision making with the aim to deliver molecules with the ?Right Safety? profile.
• Design project-specific strategies to predict, assess and mitigate target- and modality-related safety risks and execute through internal and external experimental capabilities.
• Engage with world-class experts across our organization to develop, refine and implement innovative experimental strategies and use the data to assess and/or provide mechanistic understanding of safety issues.
• Develop innovative solutions and research proposals to pursue cutting edge science and technologies in order to optimize and influence safety assessment of novel drug targets.
As the ideal candidate, you will recognize yourself in the following profile:
• PhD in toxicology, pharmacology, cell biology, systems biology or medicinal chemistry, and a strong scientific track record.
• Solid understanding of the drug discovery and development process based on more than three years of experience from the pharmaceutical industry, with an appreciation of disciplines within and outside safety and toxicology, and a track record of successful contributions to progression of drug discovery projects.
• Experience with development and validation of novel screening technologies as well as with design and execution of in vitro and/or in vivo experiments to determine the effects of therapeutics on biological systems.
• Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills across levels/disciplines.
• Highly motivated, creative, innovative, reliable scientist, with a flexible, collaborative, team-oriented mindset, who solves problems in a goal-focused fashion.
• Knowledge/experience in one or several of the therapeutic indications that are based in Mölndal (Cardiovascular, Metabolic, Respiratory, Inflammatory and Autoimmune diseases) will be considered an advantage.
• A social personality that contributes to an open, positive, collaborative working climate.
