Design is a crucial part of creating a brand and a product identity for the customer to relate to. The design of our cars is strongly influenced by our Scandinavian origins of elegance, function and the purity of lines as strong design elements. Design is a unit of 340 employees divided into one creative part and one operative part who closely work together to fulfill Volvo's design strategy.
Section 51600, Surface Design, is primarily responsible for creating digital surface models (DSM) in close cooperation with the project managers, designers, studio engineers, clay modellers and suppliers.
What you 'll do
We are now recruiting a new Director that will lead the team of managers into the future. The main responsible areas will be the digital surface development and deliveries of both Volvo and Polestar globally.
The department consists of four groups: 51610 - Concept Surface Design, 51620 - Exterior Surface Design, 51630 - Interior Surface Design and 51650 - Component Surface Design. In total, the department consists of around 55 permanent employees and currently around 35 consultants.
The Director of Surface Design reports to the Head of Design Operations, 51001 and will be a member of OMT as well as the extended Design Steering Group (DSG).
Main responsibilities:
* Lead the managers through purpose, mission and trust, building on each individual's strength
* Secure the deliveries of all digital surface models (DSM) globally
* Resource management of running projects
* Develop competences, strategies and working methods for the department
You and your skills
* University, technical college degree or similar
* Fluent in English
* Good understanding of surface design software and processes
* Knowledge in the product development process is meritorious
* Leadership experience
