Storytel is Northern Europe's largest audiobook streaming service and we're now looking for a tester to join the team! Storytel's vision is to make the world a more empathic and creative place with great stories to be shared and enjoyed anytime, anywhere by anyone.
About the Role
Our aspiration is to grow our share of the quickly expanding global audiobook market from 5% to 15% within the next ten years. To succeed we are restructuring how we are organized and how we work to improve our ability to deliver more impactful product outcomes.
Product & Tech at Storytel consists of 220 phenomenal individuals across engineering, data, product, and product design.
We are forming multiple "domains", teams of teams, within product & tech to provide clarity of purpose, strategy, and priorities.
One of these domains is Core Experience. This domain brings the teams together that focus on the core user experience of Storytel: finding, discovering, experiencing, and sharing stories. The domain consists of approximately 45 individuals and will grow as we invest more in our core product experience.
We are looking for a Senior Engineering Leader to head up this domain together with a product peer (Director of Product).
Join us and have front-row seats in scaling the organization to support the growth of a premiere experience product in the forefront of storytelling!
What you will do:
• Lead engineering in the domain and be influential in shaping the vision for how millions of subscribers experience audiobooks and storytelling.
• Contribute to broad, department-wide business decisions, processes, and strategies. Be accountable for the technical vision and long-term technology strategy for the domain.
• Define the technical capabilities required within the domain to contribute to goals and product strategy.
• Work with engineers, product and product design to maintain and advance our core product experience Recruit, hire, scale, and develop teams of world-class engineers and engineering managers.
• Create and grow the next generation of leadership at Storytel.
• Drive Operational Excellence across team's services.
• Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as part of the tech leadership team.
What you bring along:
• A track record of running highly effective teams in scale-ups or more mature tech/product companies with an ability to lead both managers and engineers.
• Experience leading complex engineering initiatives that cross multiple teams.
• A passion for operational excellence; resiliency of services and quality of what your teams ship.
• Previous experience as a hands-on software engineer and strength in computer science fundamentals to understand the engineering work that is going on in your teams.
• Team-centric mindset. You see the area as a team of teams. You learn and grow together.
• Ability to offer feedback and coach teams and individuals in their ongoing development.
• A passion for customers and how one can continuously improve the environment and processes in order to exceed their expectations.
• Know what a great evolvable architecture looks like that supports rapid product evolution.
• A curious and humble approach to leadership and a genuine interest in the success and growth of the people you work with.
• Ability to lead with strategy, clear objectives, and goals.
