We are currently seeking a Process Engineering Director to lead our Manufacturing & Engineering Technology unit within the Oral Product Development (OPD) function. With your significant scientific project-based experience, preferably in pharmaceutical engineering, continuous manufacturing, and digital science, you'll strengthen our team and help us drive strategic ambitions.

Our Gothenburg site is part of AstraZeneca's Operations business area, where we focus on delivering more medicines to patients, quicker and more affordably. As a Director in our Manufacturing & Engineering Technology unit, you'll play a crucial role in turning molecules into life-changing medicines.

In Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) we are the bridge between brilliant science and innovative medicines that help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices required to support new medicines - from supplies for use in early toxicology studies and clinical trials to developing the technology to ensure drugs can be scaled up for commercial manufacture.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead a global team of 5-8 product and process development scientists based in Gothenburg. You'll be responsible for coaching and supervising these individuals, fostering a great working environment, driving value-based harmonization and standards within the field of expertise, and ensuring projects are delivered in compliance with established standards. This strategic position requires collaboration with other OPD line managers and scientific leaders to ensure success.

Essential for the role:

• Educational background at research level (PhD) or an MSc in a relevant discipline
• Experience line managing teams of people
• Experience of project leadership
• Strong scientific knowledge in pharmaceutical process technology
• Proven track record of project work in product development environment
• Excellent communication skills
• Proven track record of talent development
• Experience of coaching people
• Good awareness about quality systems
• A habit of driving continuous improvement and Lean culture
• Cultural awareness

Desirable for the role:

• Strong scientific knowledge in pharmaceutical oral product development and pharmaceutical process engineering
• Strong network vs key customers
• Experience of working in early and late phase pharmaceutical projects
• Knowledge in Lean and Agile methodologies and culture
• Knowledge in systematic problem-solving methodologies
• Experience in utilizing modeling and Digital Twin approaches within the field
