Reporting Structure
The Engineering Director will have ~4-12 direct reports, and will report to our Chief Information Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Overall you will be accountable for the outcome of a domain- which is a collection of ~4-12 teams that are working in the same problem space. You will be responsible for coordinating deliverables across your teams, as well as enabling the team leaders below you to operate at their best.
People:
• Inspire, lead, shape and grow a high-performing software engineering organization
• Mentor and lead leaders and their teams in challenging and pushing the boundaries of product, technology and delivery.
• Lead and grow team leads and in turn, their teams.
• Play a key role in helping us continue attracting and retaining great engineering talent.
• A team player, building strong and highly empowered teams
• Drive improvements in the technology organization that enhance our core capabilities.
• Collaborate across functions with other domain leadership to make the appropriate tradeoffs between time to market, technology, and engineering best practices.
Technology:
• Influence and drive design and architecture discussions and tradeoffs.
• Work with teams to construct the technical roadmap and drive the planning and resource allocation for its development.
• Provide technical insight and judgment of feature/schedule/cost trade-offs.
• Support the decision making between build versus partner versus buy decisions on new products and services
• Identify and evaluate new technology products that help us reach our goals.
• Anticipate and react to major technology and business changes to ensure the maintenance of Klarna's market leadership
• Drive innovation and continuously benchmark new technology against market needs, competitors and third party partnerships
Delivery:
• Collaborate with the Product counterpart to prioritize and deliver initiatives across teams.
• Work with stakeholders to implement the long-term business, product and technology strategies
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement in methodology and technology to continuously increase productivity and reduce time to market
• Take a data driven approach to engineering where initiatives have metrics to align progress and determine success.
• Maintain solid agile delivery and development practices.
Experience
• Established track record in people and technical leadership showing a progression of responsibility through your career.
• Practical experience in how to lead and build product-centric engineering teams and culture
• Solid stakeholder management and influencing track record
• Experienced,inspirational leader, driving change and coaching more junior leaders
• Experience managing multiple initiatives simultaneously of varied scale and complexity
• Experience or leading through other managers in a multicultural environment .
• Experience or building and operating highly available, scalable, fault-tolerant, low-latency real time systems
• Degree in Computer Science or technical discipline or equivalent work experience

Our business is represented in Engineering domains where products are built from end to end. We have small, cross functional Agile teams divided by domains. Each team has a Manager Engineering who report into a Director- who is the leader of a domain. We pride ourselves on an autonomous and knowledge sharing culture where teams own the systems they build; from design to deployment, and also have broad decision making power in the teams.
