We are now offering an exciting opportunity for a Director Data Science to join the build-up of a new data science group within Late CVRM Biometrics. This role is preferable based at AstraZeneca's dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden, or Gaithersburg, US, and reports to Head of Data Science Late CVRM.
What you'll do
As the Director Data Science, you will contribute to the development and implementation of the data science strategy within the CVRM Therapeutic Area. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of a portfolio of data science projects as well as identifying new opportunities that will add business value. Through advanced analytics and visualizations of complex data, you will provide data-driven insights to help develop disease understanding and optimize study design and effectiveness. Additionally, you will contribute to or lead innovative strategic data science initiatives across Biometrics and the therapeutic area (TA). There will also be opportunities to explore new ideas and deliver creative and effective solutions, in collaboration with internal groups and/or external partners.
How will you make a difference?
In this role, you will:

Help develop and deliver a data science strategy for the TA - both for clinical and operational/business data
*
Identify new opportunities for application of data science in the TA that deliver value to patients and AstraZeneca
*
Establish and maintain effective collaboration with other internal Data Science organizations and external vendors and/or academic partners
*
Act as key expert and spokesperson for data science in the TA
*
Provide senior stakeholders and functional leadership teams with specific expertise and advice regarding the latest and most innovative approaches to data science and related technologies
*
Using domain-specific understanding, lead teams to translate business problems into the appropriate analytics problem and find solutions
*
Lead the adoption of ongoing knowledge and awareness in trends, standard methodology and new developments in analytics to influence functional practices and strategy
*
Representing skill/function internally and externally at seminars and meetings
What you'll need:
*
MSc Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline
*
Significant in depth experience in analyzing data, drawing conclusions and presenting in a succinct fashion to senior stakeholders, along with recommended actions
*
Significant experience in the analysis of data in applied business and/or scientific application domains
*
Computing skills: scientific computing, scripting and visualization of data (e.g. R, Python, Spotfire or PowerBI) and experience working with database systems (e.g. SQL, NoSQL, graph)
*
Experience in data mining; machine learning; statistics and visualization
*
Proven experience in leading and managing colleagues
*
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable skills:
*
PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
*
Experience in clinical development
*
Experience in a complex global organization
