We stand in front of significant challenges, where reducing transport emitted CO2 emissions is one of the biggest. We have transformed over the past years by simplifying and empowering our organization and way of working. As an integrated part of this we have high expectations to shorten development time and cost and drive innovation and employee engagement by leading technology and people.
The PE Sweden organization has the full responsibility for Platform Center Heavy Duty Engines, Transmissions as well as Application Center Heavy Duty Europe. The organization takes the product ownership role and optimizes complete powertrain systems through usage of components tailored for each application.
At Base Engine, we develop components and systems throughout the complete product life cycle that are used in combustion engines as well as in Electric, Fuel Cell and hybrids vehicles. We drive the co-operation with other engineering sites and cross-functionally to secure technical roadmaps and platform development trough CAST (Common Architecture and Shared Technology). We also do simulations, NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness), engine design, geometrical architecture, and product documentation for customers within Powertrain as well as for other Volvo functions.

This is how you could make an impact

As Director Base Engine you are a product owner who drive both the people and the technology in a team of around 100 highly skilled managers and engineers, but you will also be a member of the Powertrain Engineering leadership team shaping the future of propulsion.
The organization develops systems and components strategies and engineering solutions for the entire product life cycle that contribute to our products being the most competitive on the market. You put equal emphasis on developing platform systems and components supporting our global application sites development as on the local application development. Together with the team, you work in close collaboration cross-functionally within Volvo and with system development suppliers. You are comfortable doing daily prioritization, communication, and balancing stake-holder expectations to keep the flow and optimize deliveries. You are a people person that creates enthusiasm, enjoys networking, set up diverse team and making people thrive.
As Director for Base Engine, you will have the responsibility for Base Engine component and systems over their life cycle as well as 3D virtual development and product data management. You lead the organization to secure roadmaps of the systems, components, tools, and methods are in line with, and development executed to meet the objectives set for Group Trucks Technology and Powertrain Engineering. You drive cooperation between all global Powertrain Engineering sites to secure CAST as well as leading the cross-functional network around Base Engine. You're an integrated part of the 3D virtual development, structural simulation, and product documentation networks

Base Engine organization consists of 9 technology and competence centered groups. The technology groups develop system and components for Engine Structure, moving parts like Crank, PCU (Power Conversion Unit) and Valvetrain, fluids like cooling and oil systems and wiring. The groups are center for structural simulation, geometrical architecture, engine design and product data management performing work for all of Powertrain Engineering and are main responsible to secure competence, tools and methods are at the forefront.

We also want you to have:
Minimum a master's degree in engineering
Proven ability to successfully lead a team as line or project manager
Well experienced in the automotive industry especially within the area of forefront technology development/research in the Powertrain domain
Worked in close co-operation with system development suppliers
Communicate with ease in both verbal and written English
