AstraZeneca is now looking to hire a Director within Manufacturing Science and Technology. Placement for the role is at Södertälje, Sweden.
Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PTD) is the bridge that turns brilliant science into actual medicines that help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices for new medicines and providing expert technical support to all AZ's commercial drug substances and products to ensure we successfully supply medicines to patients.
Manufacturing Science and Technology provides Product Robustness (data analytics, validation strategy and product knowledge management), Technology Strategy and Process Engineering, and second line On Market Technical Support.
As Director Manufacturing Science and Technology, you will get the opportunity to lead a team of scientist and engineers to provide robust second line on market technical support for oral solid dosage forms. You will work closely with the other MS&T leads and on market technical support teams to ensure an enterprise wide approach is utilized. Further, you will champion Analytical Sciences and uplift lifecycle management of our Analytical Methods, and examine new Analytical technologies in partnership with other departments in Operations ensuring a coherent, enterprise approach.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Provides strategic leadership and sets the strategic direction of the Manufacturing Science and Technology group within a region to ensure it contributes effectively to the strategic, tactical and operational aims of the business
* Champions Analytical Science and Technology
* Ensures appropriate global support for second line product issue resolution as required by the business
* Develops and implements strategies to establish a world class technical organisation providing outstanding customer service for all AstraZeneca sites and for external partner organisations in the region
* Accountable for setting and managing the financial budget of a MS&T group and preparing and agreeing revenue and budgets for the regional team.
* Develops solutions to a diverse range of problems requiring complex judgements based on highly developed levels of conceptual thought, strategic vision and analysis
* Creates and sustains a highquality function, which aims to continuously improve in competence, scientific excellence and innovation
* Ensures the appropriate technical direction of work in area of technical specialism, and leads and reviews approaches to technical problem solving within the group
* Collaborates and communicates within AZ and with external partners as required
* Ensures an enterprise wide approach to on market technical support, maintaining close alignment with the other regional directors.
* Operates at the highest level of risk management
* Ensures compliance with professional quality management standards, Safety Health and Environment regulations and Good Manufacturing Practice across Global Technical Services within the region, ensuring that all work is carried out with regard to AstraZeneca and external regulatory policies and standards
Essential Requirements
* Excellent understanding of the overall drug development and commercialization process from development, launch and through life cycle management
* Minimum masters degree in Analytical Chemistry or related discipline
* Significant experience of leading and managing teams of people, large scale projects and financial budgets
* Have a thorough understanding of principles, applications and management of Safety Health and Environment and Good Manufacturing Practice
* Extensive experience in Analytical Sciences
* Extensive experience in Operations and Research and Development with a track record of successful leadership and delivery within a matrix organization
* Excellent communication skills and ability to build excellent relationships with customers
* Team management skills, including experience overseeing the training and development of team members
Desirable Requirements
* PhD in Analytical Chemistry or related scientific discipline
* Professional credibility within the business and industry
* Preferable to have both analytical development and QC experience
* Extensive knowledge of the latest technical and regulatory expectations
* Extensive knowledge of latest analytical techniques and tools
* Risk management application experience
* Experience developing and implementing lean solutions to solve complex business problems. Black Belt highly desired.
