What we offer
Part of the transformation journey for Volvo Cars includes utilising the knowledge and possibilities that comes from the academic and research world outside our company. We collaborate with Universities, society, European precompetitive organisations and with other research and test site initiatives. To lead and coordinate this collaboration we have a Director for External research within Product & Quality at Volvo Cars.

This role involves extensive networking and close relations with key persons/functions to enable this need, both on a national and international level. Main focus for external collaborative research activities is targeted at our Product & Quality business unit, but the role involves an overall Volvo Cars responsibility.

What you will do.
The role is responsible for coordination of Volvo Cars activities related to external funded research. This responsibility includes ensuring that relevant prerequisites are enabled, such as; contractual agreements, counterpart identification, stakeholder involvement, financial agreements and supporting project management solving bottlenecks.

You will work as an independent contributor using existing networks within and outside Volvo Cars. The task includes developing structure, coordinating unit inputs, negotiating long-term priorities and communicating Volvo Cars research strategy.

* Needs based monitoring, identification and establishment of 'external' contacts, collaboration, alliances, networks & partners and/or prerequisites.
* Coordinating internal interests for engaging in external programs, leveraging the best value add utilising external programs vs. internal capabilities. Ensure the best leverage of external funding into research and AE portfolio.
* Ensure that R&D is represented with right competences in relevant external networks and fora, national as well as international. This task involve active participation in e.g. the European Research and Pre-competitive collaboration arena such as EUCAR, FFI, BIL Sweden.
* Coordinating governance and networks between Volvo Cars and relevant external stakeholders, e.g. academia and research bodies.

Do you fit the profile?
We are looking for a candidate with automotive experience either within the industry or within the research community. You are a person who is comfortable in settings related to representing the company at internal and external seminars, conferences and conventions.

* Relevant University degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
* Technical & Industrial competence
* Automotive experience
* Relevant Automotive and research Network
