The Development Officer reports to the Chief Development Officer of the Tenure Facility. She/he will support the Development Unit in implementing its strategy and workplan with a focus on fundraising and related key results, enabling the Tenure Facility to realize its strategy funding targets.
She/he will support the Senior Development Officer in liaising with counterparts among partners, existing and potential donors, other funding mechanisms, think tanks and sector specialists to keep the mission of the Tenure Facility visible. She/he will support donor relations outreach and have a key role in developing donor reports and other resources. As part of the Development Unit, she/he will collaborate with TF colleagues throughout the organization to develop content in support of fundraising and donor relations.
The Position
Overarching responsibilities
Contribute to establishing the Tenure Facility as a highly credible and respected foundation among international development institutions and donors
Generate mutual trust and respect of Indigenous Peoples and local communities and their cultures, with full awareness of the intricacies of relationships among them and their allies and supporters
Contribute to a collaborative and resilient internal working culture for sustained progress on the Tenure Facility's strategic goals and objectives
Specific responsibilities
Development/fundraising
• Participate in developing and implementing the Unit's strategy to support the Tenure Facility's funding goal
• Support the implementation of the Tenure Facility strategy focusing on development communications, in line with the workplan of the Development Unit
• Stay up to date on donor requirements and the Tenure Facility strategic priorities to support the process of allocating funding, optimizing both
• Conduct desktop research and follow diverse social media to follow trends in funding for the sectors of IP and LC rights.
• Assist in developing presentations, project summaries and other resources to ensure Tenure Facility representatives have the information needed to meet with donors and other stakeholders.
• Work with the Development unit in liaising with the counterparts of existing and potential donors to discuss issues around funding. Work across Tenure Facility units to position the Tenure Facility to engage with new donors
Donor relations
• Ensure timely reporting and information sharing with existing and potential donors. Position the Tenure Facility to attract funding in line with its fundraising strategy.
• Meet regularly with Programme and Finance units to inform reporting and information sharing
• Participate in all reporting processes. Draft, review and edit reports and other documents as well as donor requests for information. Draft resource material for new donors. Work with Senior Development Officer and Head of Unit to provide timely and high quality reporting and other information to donors/potential donors
• Work with Development Unit team to develop innovative tools support donor relations
• Work with Development Unit team members to perform donor relations tasks and deliver key results as outlined in the annual workplan
• Capture and synthesize impacts of Tenure Facility support at the country level for discussions at wider donor networks and partners, to enable the TF to showcase results, opportunities, and lessons learned.
• Analyze and use the Tenure Facility partners' stories, successes, challenges and lessons learned, including audiovisuals, photographs, etc for the regular donor conversations, annual reports, and learning exchange.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
· You most likely hold a bachelor's degree in Economics, Business Administration, Public relations, Communications, or another relevant field.
• At least 3-5 years' experience in institutional development, philanthropy, fundraising and donors' relations.
• Fluency in written and spoken English, the working language of the Tenure Facility's.
• Excellent skills in working with MS Office
• Knowledge and experience from working with social media.
• Additional qualities include among others, having worked in the field with IP and LC, a good communicator, a team player, multilingual (French, Spanish, etc.)
