Development Engineer

The group Vehicle Dynamics is a group within Active Safety & Chassis and is responsible for developing the attributes Ride, Handling, Steering and Mechanical Integration. We develop requirements and methods, plan, lead and deliver the required attribute levels in all projects and act as spokespersons for Vehicle Dynamics within and outside of Volvo Car Group.

We are now searching for a new Development Engineer Vehicle Dynamics. The specific task will be to develop and verify the active yaw- and sideslip control systems, both externally supplied and in-house developed. The active functions are used both as safety systems to stabilize the vehicle in critical driving manoeuvres as well as enhancing the customer experience during normal driving conditions. A large part of the development work has historically been performed in a prototype vehicle on various test tracks and surfaces, but the challenge today is to shorten development time and decrease the dependency of these prototypes. This requires a skill set that emphasises an analytical approach and a strong openness to change.

Main responsibilities

• Prepare, Perform and report verification in current projects
• Equip and prepare the test object with necessary instrumentation
• Calibrate and verify active yaw and stability functions
• Document and report verification status and activities
• Support neighbouring roles as an expert in the area
• Development and method maintenance
• High level function development
• Project planning
• Solve practical problems that can occur on the field

Required qualifications

• M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering or Control Engineering/ Mechatronics or Equivalent
• Analytical knowledge of Vehicle dynamics
• Driving License B
• Fluent in English both written and spoken
• Previous experience within Vehicle Dynamics or Active Safety Development is meritorious
• PhD in the automotive area is meritorious
• Knowledge of CAN-Based diagnostic tools and CAE knowledge will be an asset
