BTG Instruments AB is a world leader in the field of measuring and analysis instruments for monitoring and regulating advanced process parameters in the paper and pulp industry. For more than 100 years, we have developed innovative and cost-effective ways to improve productivity and profitability for our customers in paper and pulp production. BTG was founded in 1921 in Sweden, and our headquartered is today located in Éclépens, Switzerland. Globally within the BTG group, we are about 600 people. Since 2019 we are an operating unit of Voith Paper GmbH.

Innovation and development is fundamental to BTG's ability to maintain its leading position and serve the pulp and paper industry with the most competitive products and solutions. Optical measurement technology already has many applications, and it is expected to become even more important in the future. The purpose of this position is to strengthen our position further, with an expert with responsibility for development of optical measurement principles and technologies.

Working tasks

In the role as development engineer with focus on spectroscopy, your area of responsibility will be to lead and drive the development of our optical measurement instruments. Within your area of expertise, you will contribute with your understanding of different measurement principles and how they can be applied in different applications and processes. Your knowledge of UV-VIS, NIR and IR spectroscopy will therefore be crucial. You will also work practically with different methods as well as with interpretation and analysis of spectra and other data.

As development engineer you will actively be searching for new technologies and solutions and exploring the possibility of applying them for new products. The work also includes improving existing measuring instruments and finding new application areas for these. Our development projects are run in multidisciplinary teams in close cooperation with e.g. product managers. We have our own prototype workshop and tests take place in our modern laboratories and at our customers' production sites. You participate in all phases of the development work and get the opportunity to follow a product from idea to commercialization.

Your background

You have a solid education in science or technology (MSc or PhD) with particularly UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopic principles and technology. You have worked practically with various applications, and you preferably also have experience from industrial online systems. Knowledge or experience from pulp and paper industry is a strong merit.

We value strong analytical skills and ability to self-organize. The role includes work both in laboratory and field environment, including customer trials, and your communication skills and accuracy are therefore crucial. We work with colleagues and customers globally and a good command of English, both verbal and written, are essential.

The most important is however being eager to learn and develop, being customer orientated, and to appreciate both individual and team work to reach ambitious targets.

What we offer

At BTG, we value entrepreneurship, new ideas and personal responsibility. We believe in giving our employees room for creativity to constantly find new ways to develop and evaluate technologies and methods. Within the company, we work actively to develop our staff. If you have the ambition, we offer good opportunities to eventually develop further in other roles.

The position is based in Säffle, Sweden, and if necessary the possibility with home office can be given 1-2 days per week. The job includes a limited amount of travel within Sweden and also internationally.
