You will act in a dual role as developer and development manager contributing actively to front-end development of the DINA system, coordinating the technical tasks in the DINA project and liaising with the DINA project manager on tasks relating to the overall project management.
Specifically, you will collaborate with the DINA project manager to translate overall DINA project delivery into technical tasks. You will coordinate quality assurance measures and development tasks with the development team and take responsibility for following up on external code contributions, their acceptance and integration into the DINA-Web codebase. You will furthermore actively contribute to the development of core DINA-Web components, possibly at all stack levels, but with a particular focus on front-end development.
Your work will also involve frequent interactions with DINA-Web end users from the different NRM collections as well as contributions to outreach activities associated with the presentation of DINA-Web features and use-cases to audiences in Sweden and abroad, which will involve occasional national and international travel.
Qualifications
You have a university education in either or both biological sciences and informatics, as well as documented experience in biodiversity informatics in general or ideally in working with natural history collection data.
You will have documented experience in working with or leading software development projects, preferably backed up with certifications in agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum). You have been working with open source database management systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and possess good knowledge of web front-end technologies (Javascript, CSS); knowledge of Javascript frameworks like Ember.js would be meritable.
You will have excellent English communication skills and ideally also a good knowledge of Swedish.
The Swedish Museum of Natural History is one of the largest institutions of its kind in Europe. The museum combines a rich tradition and unique collections with world-leading research in geology, paleontology, botany and zoology. The museum also has extensive activities in environmental monitoring. The Department of Bioinformatics and Genetics conducts research and development work in population genomics, phylogenetics and biodiversity informatics. The department also includes a modern DNA laboratory and the Centre for genetic identification.
The Department for Bioinformatics and Genetics is responsible for the development of the national natural history collection management system, DINA-Web. The system is developed as an open source project within an international collaboration. The department furthermore coordinates the implementation of the DINA-Web system in other Swedish institutions.
