ESS is looking for a Detector Expert with in the Detector Group. This is an opportunity to acquire and develop skills and be involved in the creation of a world-class facility. We are working with world leading partners to achieve something very special, to contribute to becoming a leading research facility.

About the team
The tasks and responsibilities of the Detector group include but are not limited to:

• In-house manufacturing of detector systems;
• Assisting ESS in-kind partners with integration of commercial detector systems;
• Coordinating essential common detector system scope across the ESS instrument suite;
• Supporting instrument construction teams during installation commissioning and operation at ESS.

About the role
As the successful candidate and future Detector Expert you will:

• take ownership and active part in developing/deploying beam monitors and detector solutions for our different neutron instruments. In particular, leading the assembly of the beam monitor/detector modules, experimental validation campaigns, integration activities, data analysis, installation and commissioning of the detector modules and/or beam monitors.
• work closely with a team of various Mechanical Engineers and with the other ESS Detector Scientists and Technicians.
• contribute to the proposals for the mechanical engineering solutions
• be an active part in the team and provide hands on support in procuring, testing, verifying and assembling the detectors
• be a vital part of the installation and commissioning of one of ESS biggest and most crucial projects, i.e. beam monitors and detectors for our Neutron instruments

About you
We believe that you have:

• Experience in neutron detector instrumentation and knowledge in neutron scattering it is ideal, but also knowledge in synchrotron instrumentation or more general detector technologies can be evaluated
• Experience with preparing experimental setups for detector performance evaluation
• Sufficient experience in Data analysis and coding, preferably with python and C/C++
• We are looking for a self-motivated person, capable to work as part of a team and confident to expose and contribute with your own ideas.
• A precise person, attentive to detail, striving for the upmost quality, without compromising the schedule
• Able to multi-task, adapt to new challenges and able to develop novel solutions
• Proven self-motivation and initiative
• Be a positive team player and have the ability to provide good service to other stakeholders
• Experience of working in an international research environment is an advantage
• You must be a hands-on person, strongly motivated by the desire to widen your knowledge on neutron detectors and deliver on time detector systems
• perfectly master English in oral and written form

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probation period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The work will take part mostly between the Lund ESS offices and the Detector Group workshops as required. You might also be required to visit or spend a significant fraction of time in other collaborating partners and neutron centres, as necessary.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
