The section Exterior Trim, within the Exterior department, consists of the three groups: Glass and mirrors, Ornamentation and Roof system and Functional black trim. Within Exterior Trim we have created a highly flexible design team who are responsible for the design of the whole product range for the section and the development are conducted in a close cooperation with our suppliers. Our long term goal is that all parts should be developed in house. This means that a lot of effort are spend on building experience and working development such as: Templates, 3DPMi, Mold flow analysis, CAE simulations.
As Design Engineer within Exterior Trim you will connect and communicate with suppliers from all over the world which demands business acumen. As a designer we want you to be a part of the good team spirit and that you could motivate, coach and learn other team members. You should see complex, technical problems as a challenge and be able to suggest different solutions. You should also be able to propose design solutions for the system/component. Seeing the complete picture is needed for you to understand the role of your system in the complete car and your role and tasks as a part of a complete car project.
Main Responsibilities
• Develop technical solutions from idea to agreed solution
• Develop technical solutions that fulfills target within time, technique and cost frames
• Develop 3D models for virtual verification and manufacturing of prototype tools/parts for physical verification
• Develop 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacturing of production parts
• Contribute to secure functional models and functional sections
• Contribute to secure geometry and final demands
• Lead the design work of the actual part/component
• Participate in cross functional team where the prerequisites for the design is set
Required qualifications
• At least 2-3 years of work experience from similar role
• Relevant technical education, Bachelor of Science or similar
• Good knowledge in Catia V5
• Good knowledge in engineering design
• Fluent in English both spoken and written
• Knowledge in Team Center and other systems within Volvo Cars that handles drawings and 3-D models are meritorious
