Design Engineer - Air Induction System

Powertrain Installation is one of four development departments within Powertrain, who mainly focus on development within five areas: Engine Mounts, Exhaust System, Air Induction System, Cooling System, and Fuel System. We perform the development from strategy to production start. Engine Mounts and Air Induction System are today merged into one section and responsible for the car's characteristics when it comes to drivability, ride comfort, noise and vibrations. The result is that our work has a major impact on the car's total experience as an end product.

As a Design Engineer at Air Induction System, you have a responsibility to design for "Build to Print", ie, the department handles all the design and production of technical documents which the selected suppliers use for manufacturing. You will be responsible for some components of the air intake system and you will be working in one of our teams with 4-5 other designers, to a specific project. The team will also have CAE support for flow calculations. The work is very cross-functional with many contacts both within and outside Volvo, in many cases in an international environment where English is used for communication. Time is valuable. Having a structured work schedule and managing your tasks well is of the essence.

Main responsibilities
• Responsibility to design for "Build to Print"
• Responsible for components of the air intake system
• Project oriented work tasks
• Manufacturing friendly design work in Catia V5, surfaces and solids.

Required qualifications
• You need at least a B.Sc. grade within mechanics or mechatronics, or a similar education
• Fluent in English both spoken and written
• Very good knowledge in Catia V5
• Knowledge of injection and blow molding of plastic parts is meritorious
• Knowledge of die casting, sand casting and tube forming of aluminium / steel structures is meritorious
• Technical material knowledge/experience of plastic/metal is meritorious
• Knowledge of FEA calculations/simulations is meritorious
