Are you a skilled and curious Data Scientist? Would you like to challenge the ways of utilizing data to develop innovative medicines for patients? Would you like to join a diverse and global company where both your skills and your personality will be appreciated?

The Computational ADME & Safety team is expanding, and we are recruiting Data Scientists at different seniority levels to join us. The seniority level of the roles can be adjusted to match your experience and skills. You will be part of Clinical Pharmacology & Safety Sciences (CPSS), which is a function within our Biopharmaceuticals R&D Unit.

In CPSS, we focus on characterize absorption, disposition, metabolism and elimination (ADME) properties of compounds, non-clinical toxicology and off-target pharmacology. Working in disease-focused project teams, we help to discover efficacious molecules with good safety profiles. CPSS is committed to be an industry leader in supporting the discovery and non-clinical development of safe medicines that improve patients' lives. Our Computational ADME & Safety team is dedicated towards developing computational models to aid projects to design and select molecules with the right safety and ADME profiles.

Our stunning campus in Gothenburg is one of AstraZeneca's three strategic science centres. The site is home to over 2,500 employees, from 50 different nationalities. Gothenburg includes the complete range of functions, and as such offers plenty of development opportunities for a wide variety of professionals. Our science teams in Gothenburg collaborate with academic and industry partners in Sweden and globally. And the site itself is designed with collaboration in mind. From the Coffee Lab to exercise areas, we've built a series of environments where innovation can happen.

As a Data Scientist in Computational ADME & Safety, you will work with cutting edge technology in an open and collaborative environment nursing novel ideas. The group has strong focus on method development within the computational area, acknowledging the need to in depth understanding of the safety or ADME properties of interest. Collaboration within and outside CPSS is essential.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist in Computational ADME & Safety you will get the opportunity to link between theoretical and practical science. With your expertise, you will support colleagues and projects with tools and methods to optimize and streamline drug safety and metabolism experiments.

Your main responsibilities will involve:

* Apply Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence and mechanistic modeling approaches to ADME and safety endpoints, assuring delivery of appropriate tools and in silico models to projects for virtual screening, compound selection and experimental prioritization
* Analyze data and model quality ensuring high performance of models and tools
* Provide specialist support for development, interpretation and application of machine learning models along with knowledge of common database query languages e.g. SQL
* Support analyses to provide mechanistic and translational insight into compound ADME and safety profiles
* Method development to improve models and enhance model value and generated knowledge

Essential Requirements

We believe that you are an open-minded person with a natural enthusiasm and curiosity. You have a track record of embracing new ideas and different perspectives and are constantly driving innovation. To be successful and efficient, we require you to have a strong critical thinking as well as great planning, organizational and time management skills.

* BSc in life science, statistics or computer science - preferably with industry experience
* Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

* Expertise in a variety of machine learning methods (e.g. Deep Learning, SVM, Random Forrest)
* Computational chemistry, Computational toxicology or Cheminformatics
* Expertise in high-performance computing and programming (e.g. Python, C++, Java). Experience using cloud platforms are beneficial.

* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary research environment

Desirable Requirements

* PhD in life science, statistics or computer science - preferably with industry experience
* Biological understanding of toxicology and/or drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) and modeling of ADME or safety endpoints
