Seco Tools is a worldwide leading supplier of metal cutting solutions in areas such as milling, stationary tools, hole making and tooling systems for a diverse mix of customers. Our tools help build planes, trains, automobiles, power solutions, medical equipment, agriculture gear and everything else around us.
Your phone case? The molds are cut and created by our tools. The lenses in the glasses you wear? Cut by our tools. The golf balls you use? Our tools are in the machines that cut the dimples. Your grandma's knee replacement? Yes, you guessed it - our tools cut and shape that metal. The famous Chicago Bean (Cloud Gate) in Millennium Park was also created by our tools.
It's what we do, we're good at it and proud of it! We make a difference in people's lives, but we're not arrogant enough to rest on our laurels or think we have it all figured out. Not at all, and this is where you come in!
About the job
This is a position requiring strong quantitative and programming skills, as well as strong abilities to collaborate and educate complex matters. When starting on the job, your work includes developing, implementing and launching systems that serve as important components in our global demand prediction and demand planning processes for all products. This task involves:
Construct pipelines and databases supporting clean and easily accessible data; suitable for modelling, report generation and graphical illustration
Construct code frameworks for model development, testing, report generation and graphical illustration
Construct pipelines and routines for deployment of developed and tested processes and models into production environments
Developing and improving routines for how model output should be combined with human experience/knowledge in a structured way to be able to produce the best possible predictions
Over time, we except you to grow your responsibilities and take part in other exciting development activities across our business. Specifically, this includes taking an active role in extending the Data Scientist team, and in identifying further areas suitable for data-driven operations.
You're located in Stockholm, but as we have our headquarters and largest production site in Fagersta, we also need you to spend some time there.
About you
You have at least three years of experience within related fields, combined with advanced skills in mathematics, statistics, programming, database and system architecture. Experience from supervisory roles - in the sense of systems more than people - is a strong plus but not an absolute requirement. We do need you to be a self-directed, results-oriented, pragmatic and quantitatively adept individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills. You learn fast and have a curious mindset, and you're very keen on researching and adopting new techniques.
We think that a candidate with the following attributes will most likely be chosen:
MSc in a quantitative subject, with strong emphasis on mathematics - such as physics, mathematics or computer science - from a well-respected university
Strong academic or professional experience from building, analyzing, implementing, evaluating and maintaining statistical models - for example time series, Gaussian processes and generalized linear models
Strong professional experience from building code frameworks for efficient development, evaluation and deployment of mathematical and statistical models
Professional experience from database architecture, as well as from code version control and code development workflows - for example git or scrum
Strong communication skills as you must be prepared to educate us in necessary theory, as well as participating in the ongoing development of routines regarding how model output is best combined with human experience/knowledge - aiming to produce the best possible outcome
