We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our early stage CVRM (Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism) Data Science team in our Translational Science and Experimental Medicine department. This team is dedicated to the development of innovative treatments for Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic diseases.

This role will be based either at AstraZeneca's dynamic R&D sites in Cambridge (UK) or Gothenburg, (Sweden).
Accountabilities
As a Data Scientist in the Early CVRM Data Science team within Translational Science and Experimental Medicine, you will work on projects involving the analysis and interpretation of large complex datasets, including exploratory biomarkers in clinical trials. This will enable the validation of existing drug targets as well as the identification of novel targets and biomarkers for disease modulation and patient stratification. You will collaborate with internal and external partners to utilize relevant big data sources including genetics, dynamic omics, clinical observations, and electronic health records.
Essential for the role
*
Strong quantitative background with a PhD, or equivalent experience, in bioinformatics, systems biology, statistics, data science, or other quantitative sciences.
*
Strong knowledge of either HF, T2D, CKD or NASH disease biology and experience with analysis of associated molecular and exploratory clinical data.
*
Experience applying computational, statistical and machine learning techniques for the manipulation, visualization, and analysis of large complex datasets, including Omics, biomarker and healthcare analytics data, in a biological or drug discovery context.
*
Programming skills in R, Python or equivalent language and experience with Unix/Linux and shell scripting.
*
Excellent consulting, communication, and presentation skills.
Desired for the role
*
Understanding of the biological systems and signaling involved in any of these cardiometabolic diseases - HF, T2D, CKD or NASH.
*
Statistical data analysis with knowledge of the following areas: experimental design, linear/nonlinear models, mixed effect models, exploratory biomarkers, diagnostic analyses, applied Bayesian statistics, data mining, multivariate data analysis, and statistical learning.
*
Experience leading statistical analysis projects aligned to drug discovery.
