Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we're expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we're on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars' journey into the future.
What's in it for you?
Our team is cross-functional, consisting of data analysts, data engineer, and Software Engineers developing product applications, tools and services with direct or indirect connection to our cars. The Data Analysis & Methods and Tools Team supports many teams within Engine Controls & Diagnostics, partly with building and maintained tools used by Control and calibration teams, and partly by offering help with data analysis.
We are looking for a qualified data engineer to join our team to help build and maintain the databases infrastructure as well as the hardware for it. Your main responsibility will be making sure that we have a robust data infrastructure in which we have all our data stored and ready to be used by our teams as well as our data scientists.
What you'll do
You will be responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure which includes:
* Databases and the hardware for that infrastructure
* Purchasing, organizing or ordering
* Manage servers
* The choice of the software used to run the database and the server
* Manage Data storage and use
* Monitor how they work
* Monitor who, what people are using which data
* Pull data out and distributed to those who need it
Do you fit the profile?
You have a university degree in data engineering, machine learning, computer science and applied mathematics, or proven experience achieved by other means.
We believe you have some knowledge of the right hardware to be looking for, both in terms of storage and in computing and knowledge about databases software. You have knowledge about software for computing, and what the different software needs in an organization are. You understand data processing at scale and be able to run at scale those data processes and those data prediction algorithms that have been developed. Further, you have:
* Some software engineering understanding which is needed in order to be able to interact with all the other components of data analysis/Methods and tools team such as data scientist and software engineers
* Strong programming skills in two of the following: Python, C++, Java
* Two or more technologies from the following: Spark, Dask, Flink, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Hive, HBase, Hadoop
* Experience with cloud environments
Meritorious
It is a plus if you have experience with Machine Learning tools and algorithms, in particular Spark MLlib, scala programming and experience in building and designing large scale end-to-end applications. Experience designing pipelines for both batch and streaming use cases and experience from pushing "lab" specifics (training and validation) into real-time engines are also knowledge we value.
Who are you?
You are able to ask questions and figure out what's the right hardware, and what's the right security measures to be taking. You need to know how data is used, pulled and analyzed to be able to build an useful infrastructure for the teams. The right candidate works well under pressure, keeps things up and running, and keeps things maintaining.
We believe you find answers on your own and make good decisions about software maintainability. You are friendly but relentless and wants to interact with people internally and externally.
