Job Description Summary:
In 2018, iZettle became part of the PayPal family. iZettle is on a mission to help small businesses succeed in a world of giants. Tens of millions of small businesses worldwide are still being underserved by the traditional players. By giving small businesses the tools to get paid, sell smarter and grow, we're empowering them to reach their full potential. Together with PayPal, we can reach 24 million merchants across the world with more of the affordable tools they need to thrive. Join us in putting an end to the ordinary way the world defines financial freedom.
We are currently looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our Data Platform Team in Stockholm. While we take pride in how far we have come, we have no intention of sticking to known patterns or old truths and this pioneering spirit is both a shared trait across iZettle and what sets us apart from other organisations. By joining Data Platform, you will be part of a great team powered by people from different regions of the world and working together on providing the best platform to collect, enrich and expose data for iZettle teams to make smarter and faster data-driven decisions.

What you would get here:
In a nutshell, our core mission consists in developing tools that enable every iZettler to work in a data-driven fashion and pave the way for better understanding our business in order to keep making better decisions systematically leading to better products. On a broader level, we are inspired by the fact that all the solutions we are given to build will eventually affect the everyday life of hundreds of thousands of merchants across the Globe. On a more practical level, the diversity of responsibilities and challenges for us to make the magic happen is ranging from data consolidation to performance tuning of batch processes and design of machine learning pipelines.

With that in mind, here you will get the opportunity to:
Play a key role in building a new data pipeline on Google Cloud;
Experiment fearlessly, take responsibilities, and grow your expertise to the next level;
Enjoy working with friendly and talented people in a multicultural, autonomous and diverse team.

The skills you need to succeed:
At iZettle, we all believe in using the best tools for the task. That's why we continuously review our toolkit, architecture and ways of working, and we are open to new tools and frameworks as long as they can help the cause. In our Data Platform Team, we are mainly programming in Java and Python while our stack also includes Kotlin, Airflow, Spark, Beam, BigQuery, and everything else that is hosted on Google Cloud Platform. To succeed, we think that you would greatly benefit from having a proven experience overcoming challenges related to large-scale system performance (more specifically data processing in such environments) as well as a solid expertise with most of the technologies and tools listed above.

The traits you need to exceed:
You are a true team player known for being reliable, curious and bold;
You gladly share your knowledge, experience and opinions while understanding and respecting that the last word comes from the team;
You make it fun and wouldn't mind playing OpenRA because that's what we actually do as a team
Small minds never helped small businesses.
It takes originality and an open mind to start a small business. That's why small minds have no place in ours. We're proud to be an equal opportunity employer and together we uphold PayPal's One Team Behavior, striving to be a place where everyone can benefit from equal access to professional development and bring their whole self to work.
Sounds like you? Bring your talent to our attention.
If you also believe in financial inclusion and feel ready to take things further, we'd love to hear from you: Go on, hit apply and let's talk!

We're a purpose-driven company whose beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day. We hold ourselves to our One Team Behaviors which demand that we hold the highest ethical standards, to empower an open and diverse workplace, and strive to treat everyone who is touched by our business with dignity and respect. Our employees challenge the status quo, ask questions, and find solutions. We want to break down barriers to financial empowerment. Join us as we change the way the world defines financial freedom.
