The Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation, (Stiftelsen Dag Hammarskjölds Minnesfond), is a non-governmental organisation established in 1962 in memory of the second Secretary-General of the United Nations which aims to advance dialogue and policy for sustainable development and peace. The Foundation is an autonomous institution and is unaffiliated with any political, religious or ideological groups. It is an operating and not a grant-giving body. Its work is guided by respect for and alignment to the principles outlined in the UN Charter. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees. The work of the Foundation is carried out by a permanent Secretariat based in Uppsala. The work of the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation is anchored in its statutes and guided by a Strategic Framework with four thematic areas to focus its engagement. Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation is a value-based organisation, its employees should share its vision and ideal and understand what it means to work in and represent Hammarskjöld's legacy in an international context. ASSIGNMENT
During 2019-20, the Foundation will continue to develop its operations and a project-based organisation has been developed for this purpose. Currently, projects related to the Foundation's peacebuilding activities dominate its portfolio One strategic ambition is to further strengthen and develop projects that primarily focus on the other three thematic areas (i.e. Multilateralism and Norms, Agenda 2030 and UN renewal).

DESCRIPTION
The Director of Programme's work will focus on supporting the Foundation's core programmatic activities as laid out in the Strategic Framework 2018-20 and Annual Work Programmes. The position will oversee work related to the following issues:
• Multilateralism and international norms and governance, including trends and future of multilateralism and the Normative role of the UN.
• Repositioning of the UN system, with a focus on the form and functions of the UN operative system, management and leadership (i.e. ethics, integrity, transparency and accountability) and financing of the UN development system.
• Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including targeted awareness-raising and tracking of SDG implementation.
RESPONSIBILITIES and Tasks:
Responsibilities include:
• Plan, initiate, and implement projects according to the Strategic Framework of the Foundation
• Implementing the Foundations Strategic Framework through development and coordination of activities and projects on Multilateralism, Renewal and repositioning of the UN system, and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with a specific focus on the UN's normative role, its management and financing.

Tasks include:
• Supervise projects from start to completion involving vetting, planning, budgeting, and implementation.
• Develop evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine actions for improvements
• Supervise staff and managers involved through leadership, engagement and feedback
• Apply risk and resource management principles when needed
• Read reports prepared by managers to determine progress and issues
• Ensure program operations and activities adhere to policies and guidelines of the Foundation
• Keep management informed with detailed and accurate reports of activities
• authoring and editing of material, i.e. articles, policy papers, reports;
• organizing and facilitating seminars and meetings;
• participate and represent the Foundation in official meetings;
• support coordination of projects and activities of the Foundation;
• participation in team-work on strategy, policy, monitoring and evaluation of the Foundation's activities.

REPORTING AND RELATIONS:
The Director of Programmes for Multilateralism, Governance and Norms reports to the Executive Director and is a member of the Foundation's Management Group.

A Director of Programmes;
• coordinates and collaborates with the Director of Programmes for Building and Sustaining Peace ensuring synchronised implementation of projects and activities;
• liaises and collaborates with programme and administrative staff and Senior Advisors of the Foundation, and;
• engages with consultants to the Foundation and its external partners.
