CVGI - Expert Scientist in the field of in vitro Cellular Signaling with special
emphasis on Insulin Signaling - MOL0000001G Description
The section for Diabetes and Obesity seeks a highly motivated PhD Researcher
to work on drug discovery projects and target validation in cellular systems of
relevance to the disease area. The Arena Within the Global
Discovery Function at AstraZeneca, the Vision of the Cardiovascular and
GastroIntestinal Research Area (RA CVGI) is to "Outperform the competition by
discovering and delivering therapeutic innovations that improve patients'
lives". To facilitate the realisation of this Vision, the RA CVGI is currently
carrying out an extensive reorganisation and the Diabetes and Obesity Disease
Area is expanding. We are now seeking a Researcher who will be part of
an in vitro research team currently comprising six scientists (PhD and MSc
level). The team's remit is to provide core competence, knowledge and
experimental expertise in in vitro nutrient handling with emphasis on adipocyte
biology. The candidate will support all phases of drug discovery in the section
for Diabetes and Obesity and prioritized projects from other disease areas. The
Researcher will report to the Team Leader. The Role The
successful candidate will be responsible for using his/her expertise in cellular
signaling to identify and validate novel Drug Discovery targets in Diabetes and
Obesity research. The work will involve participation in or leading
multidisciplinary project teams at all phases of discovery activities ranging
from target identification to extended documentation of compounds in clinical
development. S/he will be expected to establish and maintain an active network
of expert contacts outside the company. Minimum experience/requirements
Candidates for this position should have a PhD or equivalent in a
relevant bioscience discipline and at least three years postdoctoral experience.
The successful candidate must also have expert knowledge of the disease area and
a demonstrated expertise in cell signaling, especially insulin signaling, in
target tissues. Consideration will also be given to whether the candidates have
demonstrated hands-on experience of signal transduction assays and other
state-of-the-art cell signaling techniques. Excellent communication skills and
the ability to work effectively and in close collaboration with a matrix
organization are essential. Preferred experience/requirements
Experience in identifying, establishing and managing external science and
technology collaboration is desired and experience from drug discovery in the
pharmaceutical industry is preferred. More information For
