We are looking for a Customs Classifier to join our team!
The Classification Team is responsible for classification of products under customs procedures in the EMEA Region and process development in the EMEA region but in close cooperation with the counterparts in each global unit in the field of Customs.
The EMEA Classification team shall ensure that correct classification of parts for the Volvo Cars group organization is conducted. As a member of the team, you will help provide operational import/export compliance guidance, partner with key businesses overseas classification processes. You will also work with both internal and external partners to measure and define trade compliance processes, constantly using data to improve and strengthen controls.

What you'll do
The work will concentrate on performing accurate classifications and seek guidance from legal, when needed, for finished goods, equipment, raw materials and non-production items and others. Communicate classification decisions to key stakeholders, including members of the whole Customs team. Support colleagues of the EMEA Customs Operations team, as well as cross-functional departments globally, on classification issues and tasks. The Classification Team shall maintain appropriate recordkeeping to support classification determinations with support of MIC Customs System. In case needed, determine other government agency requirements applicable to the product. You will build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders as well as with suppliers to obtain requisite product information needed to perform accurate classifications. Provide guidance, support and training to business units, Customs Operations and Global Customs team on requirements for product classifications and related operational processes. Apply regulatory, judicial, international and/or local Customs' decisions/views to products being classified. Determine product eligibility for Free trade agreements and interface with Engineering and Program Managers to understand technical characteristics and how that impacts classifications. You will provide guidance to colleagues concerning the requirements and obligations of proper classification of goods. In this position you will also work with both internal and external partners to measure and define trade compliance process and drive improvements.
You and your skills
* Three (3) years minimum experience with broad customs classification experience using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule or equal
* Strong experience in Customs working with special procedures and/or classification
* Strong knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff System, General Rules of Interpretation of the HTS and government binding rulings
* Ambition to perform and improve
* A strong interest of details and the automotive industry would be prioritised
* The ability to work independently and take initiative to address issues
* Strong communication skills to be able to explain and defend classification decisions
* Broad range of computer skills (MS office, Sharepoint, statistics applications)
* Comfortable working with individuals at all organizational levels
* Show strong and effective communication and inter cultural skills, verbal and written
