That was the year when Christian Schibsted founded a printing house and laid the foundation of what would become Schibsted. A lot has happened since. Our brand's sites and services have 780 million visits per month and we are now looking for a new VP Engineering who can ensure we deliver world class products to our brands and consumers.
The newly established VP Engineering position is part of the Data & Tech management group and reports directly to the Chief Data & Technology Officer Sven Størmer Thaulow. You will manage Schibsted's development and operation of common production systems, including our data platforms, serving Schibsted's many business entities.
Your responsibilities include communication and collaboration with users of Schibsted's common solutions as well as a corporate wide responsibility to define which common components and common platform solutions we need to establish to succeed with our strategy. Our new VP Engineering should also facilitate innovative and strong business development, supporting the company's growth initiatives.
You will contribute to modern technology being utilized in the best way for the whole value chain, and make sure that Schibsted invests in the right and relevant solutions optimizing the return on investment in the short and long term. You are a strategic thinker and have a strong ability to get things done.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and execute on the strategy for the Data & Tech organization
- Ensure that services, systems, and tools provide good business support to the whole value chain
- Proactive evaluation of system technology for use in the value chain and balance buy vs. build
- Follow up suppliers and collaborators/stakeholders within the technology area
- Stay up to date on technology trends, recommend technology investments and prioritize development roadmap for the unit
- Close cooperation with other product and tech environments - along with the start-up environment in Schibsted
- Participate in technical due diligence when Schibsted evaluates acquisition targets
The VP Engineering we are looking should have experience in:
- Leading leaders
- Leading, developing, and motivating engineering teams
- Working in a strategic role but still like to be operational and to take action
- Working with both Technology and Data Science
- Business and organisational development
- Negotiation with suppliers, ordering and following up on delivery
We also think that you are:
- Curious and future-oriented, with an interested in technology and trends
- An excellent communicator in English. Skills in Swedish or Norwegian is a plus
- Passionate about Schibsted's mission: Empowering people in their daily lives
- Holding a minimum M.Sc. degree in Computer Science or equivalent. Lower degree can be compensated by experience.

We are about 250+ people in Oslo, Stockholm and Krakow, and collaborate closely with other product and tech teams in all units in Schibsted. Areas of responsibilities include data & technology strategy, privacy/data trends/responsible data & machine learning, information security and internal IT.
