The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Cryogenics Engineer.

Description of directorate/division
The Accelerator Division is responsible for the design, construction, installation and commissioning of the ESS accelerator, in collaboration with partner institutions and with other divisions of the ESS. The cryogenics team in the Specialized Technical Services Group will work alongside other groups in the Accelerator Division to define and design the cryogenic systems of the ESS. They will also be responsible for development of equipment for the accelerator as well as installation and commissioning of the cryogenic system during construction of the ESS.

Description of main responsibilities
The successful candidate will assist in basic and detailed design, analysis and sourcing of components of the cryogenic system of ESS, in support of the cryogenic project engineers. He or she will communicate with colleagues, partner institutions, consultants and suppliers to ensure state-of-the-art of the relevant cryogenic equipment and processes.

Qualifications
Technical competencies:
An advanced technical or scientific degree in an appropriate field, preferably cryogenics. Around 5 years theoretical and practical experience in thermodynamics, specializing in cryogenics. Background know how of mathematics, physics and engineering, especially heat & mass transfer and fluid mechanics. Basic know how of enabling technologies, such as vacuum and instrumentation. Experience in project management is beneficial. Experience with (circular or straight) superconducting accelerators is desirable. Experience of working in an international environment is essential. Excellent oral and written English skills are a prerequisite.

You are good at gathering information and to rapidly get an understanding of the information. It is very important that you show great adaptability, good communication skills and have the ability to identify issues and proactively work to solve them.

Duration & Location
The position is 50% of full time (20 hours/week). The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
